'I am Charlie': the three words heard around the world - FRANCE 24





A day after a deadly attack at the headquarters of the French satirical magazine “Charlie Hebdo”, social networks are being flooded by tributes to the 12 victims. In France, crane operators, air traffic controllers, football players and even a newborn baby found ways to pay their respects on this day of national mourning. 

In Strasburg, a giant sign reading “I am Charlie” was spotted on a crane. 


This graffiti, which reads “Long Live Charlie Hebdo”, appeared overnight in Briancon, in the French Alps. 


“I am Charlie” was written on documents printed by air traffic controllers at Paris’s Charles de Gaulle Airport. 


“Charlie” in the windows of a building in Nantes.


Road signs in Corsica paid their tribute.


“Je suis Charlie” appeared on Google France’s search engine. 

The same message in a train in the United Kingdom.


The Paris suburb of La Defense showed its support on electronic ad billboards.


Bike sharing stations in Paris paid tribute as well. 


The message “We are all Charlie” appeared on France’s A13 freeway.


“Je suis Charlie” was broadcast on a tower in Dortmund, in Germany.


Marseille’s football club showed its solidarity with “Charlie Hebdo” during a press conference. 


Demonstrators gathered in the streets of Montreal in -37 degree weather to pay tribute. 


In Saint Malo, in Brittany, the message “We are all Charlie” was written in the sand.


A train conductor who had to work during Tuesday night’s demonstrations found another way to pay tribute.
