Ties With India Top Priority, David Cameron Tells PM Modi: 10 Developments
UK PM David Cameron meets Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Brisbane
BRISBANE:  UK's Prime Minister David Cameron told Prime Minister Narendra Modi today that relations with India are at the top of priorities of the his country's foreign policy. The two leaders met in Brisbane today. They are in Australia for the G-20 summit.

  1. "It was a great meeting, we discussed a host of issues from economy to terrorism," the British PM told NDTV after the meeting, adding that he has invited Mr Modi to Britain. He also said, "India and Britain share a common approach to terrorism."
  2. PM Modi landed in Brisbane this morning and reported in a tweet that it was "bright and sunny." He is the first Indian PM to visit Australia in 28 years and will go to three other cities - Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne. 
  3. The G-20 summit, a gathering of 20 of the world's biggest developed and emerging economies, begins tomorrow. The group accounts for 80 per cent of world trade and 85 per cent of global economic production.
  4. At the summit, PM Modi is expected to raise the issue of global cooperation against black money. He had said in his departure statement that "a key issue for me would be to highlight the importance of international cooperation against black money".
  5. He is also expected to voice his concerns over "jobless growth," stressing that economic growth should also create employment.
  6. Earlier today, the PM visited the Queensland University of Technology where he interacted with students, and posed for a selfie with them. Honouring Jawaharlal Nehru, India's first prime minister, on his 125th birth anniversary, he told students, "I am fortunate to be among children on Chacha Nehru's birthday."
  7. PM Modi also wrote in Hindi on an Agricultural robot there. "Research is the mother of development," he wrote, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin tweeted. The Agro Robot is a light weight machine that performs the functions of a large tractor, including weeding.
  8. PM Modi also met Japanese PM Shinzo Abe today. On the sidelines of the summit, Mr Modi is also expected to hold meetings with Germany's Angela Merkel and France's Francois Hollande.
  9. PM Modi will proceed to Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne between November 16 and November 18. In Sydney, Mr Modi will interact with about 500 top Australian and Indian CEOs. He will also be feted at a reception at the Olympic Park where 16,000 Australian Indians are expected to gather. During his stay in Australia, PM Modi will hold talks with Prime Minister Tony Abbott in Canberra. Mr Abbott will host a reception for Mr Modi at the iconic 161-year-old Melbourne Cricket Ground. The PM will also address a joint sitting of the Federal Parliament.
  10. The Prime Minister is on a 10-day tour of Myanmar, Australia and Fiji. He has finished the Myanmar leg of his visit and before flying home from Australia, will visit Fiji.
